  1. Testament of Solomon, 2nd century Proto-grimoire, introducing demonic list with controlling angels, set in the tale of Solomon's construction of the temple
  2. Sword of Moses 10th century Hebrew work of magick focusing on results magick, the sword in question being the sequences of divine names
  3. Liber Juratus aka The Sworn Book of Honorius 13th century One of the first major grimoire, introducing planetary angel magick, magick circles, sword and results magick all together
  4. Picatrix 1256 Latin edition, with emphasis on talismans and astrological magick, Arab version probably earlier
  5. Hygromantia 1440 Greek work which is the proto-Key of Solomon
  6. The Heptameron (published posthumously hence earlier date probable creation) 1485
    (1310?) Major work on the magick circle and preparation of paraphernalia, as well as planetary angels
  7. Key of Solomon Mid-15th - mid-16th century The major practical grimoire, occurring in huge numbers and focusing on planetary and talismanic magick
  8. Steganographia of Trithemius 1500 Work on codes which is also proto-Lemegeton material
  9. De Occulta Philosophia
    (3 Books of Occult Philosophy) 1533 Agrippa's major work compiling grimoire, folk and Qabalistic material
  10. Pseudomonarchia Daemonum 1563 Weyer's list of demons which forms most of the Goetia
  11. Arbatel of Magick 1575 Introduction of the Olympic Spirits
  12. Dee's Five books of Mystery 1581-83 Original source of the Enochian system
  13. Discoverie of Witchcraft 1583 Scot's work which compiled much grimoire material and made it available
  14. Abramelin 1610 First German edition of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin
  15. Lemegeton 1641 First appearance of the 5 Books together which make the Lemegeton - i.e. Goetia, Theurgia-Goetia, Pauline Art, Almadel Art, Ars Notoria
  16. Nine Celestial Keys Mid-17th century Rudd's conjuration of the nine great archangels
  17. Grimoire of Pope Honorius 1670 Derivative black magic grimoire drawing from the Key of Solomon and other works
  18. 6th & 7th Books of Moses 1734 First appearance of this popular work which influences voodoo, Pennsylvania Dutch and other contemporary traditions
  19. Le Petit Albert 1782 Black magic grimoire
  20. The Magus 1801 Barrett's compilation drawing heavily on Agrippa and includes Trithemius
  21. Grimorium Verum 1817 Derivative black magick grimoire drawing heavily on the Key of Solomon
  22. Le Grand Grimoire 1845 Heavily derivative black magick grimoire
